Victor de la Luz
Victor de la Luz was born in the tiny town of Cinco Senores, now called San Vicente Ferrer, Puebla. His favorite childhood memories are those from boarding school where he met many children from all over Mexico. Prior to moving to the US in 2005, he was a professional Mexican Folk dancer. Dancing gave him the opportunity to travel to countries such as Russia, Italy, Korea, and China. In addition to dancing, Victor graduated as a technician in digital electronic systems.
Upon his arrival in the US, Victor worked as a restaurant dishwasher for a while, and eventually took his first wine industry job in Woodinville at Matthews Winery. In 2008 he met Hillary Sjolund (now Gordon Estate consultant winemaker), and he trained as Cellar Master under Hillary’s mentorship. In 2012, Victor moved to Walla Walla to pursue a winemaker position at a small winery and attend Walla Walla Community College’s Enology and Viticulture program.
His passion for winemaking is infectious and he loves working close to the vineyard. He enjoys all varietals, and Merlot is his favorite. Music in the cellar (usually Classic Rock) is a requirement, and he has an eclectic collection of hats. He loves spending time with his wife and children, and he still dances any chance he gets.
Matthew was born near Napa Valley but raised in Tri-Cities, Washington. He credits his family for his love of wine which began at the age of 7 when they took him to a winter festival at Preston Winery.
Matthew graduated from Eastern Washington University and continued his education earning a Certificate of Enology from Washington State University. He is dedicated to and passionate about Washington wine having worked harvests at 14 Hands Winery and Columbia Crest before joining Gordon Estate in 2017.
A self-proclaimed gastronome, Matthew enjoys trying exotic foods and playing trivia games. He can rock suspenders with the best of them and can intimidate anyone with his raised eyebrow. He and his wife Brittany live in the Tri-Cities, and Matthew’s favorite wines are Washington Syrah and dry Rose’.
