Victor de la Luz was born in the tiny town of Cinco Senores, now called San Vicente Ferrer, Puebla. His favorite childhood memories are those from boarding school where he met many children from all over Mexico. Prior to moving to the US in 2005, he was a professional Mexican Folk dancer. Dancing gave him the opportunity to travel to countries such as Russia, Italy, Korea, and China. In addition to dancing, Victor graduated as a technician in digital electronic systems.Upon his arrival in the US, Victor worked as a restaurant dishwasher for a while, and eventually took his first wine industry job in Woodinville at Matthews Winery. In 2008 he met Hillary Sjolund (now Gordon Estate consultant winemaker), and he trained as Cellar Master under Hillary’s mentorship. In 2012, Victor moved to Walla Walla to pursue a winemaker position at a small winery and attend Walla Walla Community College’s Enology and Viticulture program.
Victor began working at Gordon Estate as a cellar assistant in August 2017, and he was quickly promoted to Assistant Winemaker. His passion for winemaking is infectious and he loves working close to the vineyard. He enjoys all varietals, and Merlot is his favorite. Music in the cellar (usually Classic Rock) is a requirement, and he has an eclectic collection of hats. He loves spending time with his wife and children, and he still dances any chance he gets.
