Gordon Brothers Win Two Decanter "World Wine Awards"
U.K Magazine Honors Winery's 2002 Columbia Valley Estate Syrah
September 7, 2006
Decanter magazine, one of the most influential wine publications in the world, honored Gordon Brothers Winery in Pasco, Wash. with two prestigious awards at the Decanter 2006 World Wine Awards in London on Monday, Sept. 4.
Of 6,311 entries submitted this year, Decanter granted a total of 29 International Awards and 95 Regional Awards. Entries are categorized by region and varietal before they are judged, and Gordon Brothers 2002 Syrah received the North American Regional Award for “Rhone Varietal Over £10 ($19 US).” Then, the five regional winners in the category were re-tasted, and Gordon Brothers also won the International Award in its category. Gordon Brothers was one of three American wineries to receive a Regional Award and the only American winery to take home an International Trophy.
“This award is a testament to the fruit of the Columbia Valley and the quality of wine in Washington State,” said Jeff Gordon, owner of Gordon Brothers Cellars and Chairman of the Washington Wine Commission. “Our 2002 Syrah is hand crafted from grapes grown in our vineyard, then aged in French oak for 17 months. It is an excellent stand-alone wine, yet it pairs with food beautifully.”
Gordon Brothers 2002 Syrah retails for $20, and can be ordered by emailing info@gordonwines.com. It is also available select retailers across the United States.
“We are tremendously proud of Gordon Brothers Winery’s achievement,” said Robin Pollard, Executive Director of the Washington Wine Commission. “This global recognition shines a spotlight on the Washington wine industry and the quality wines from the Columbia Valley appellation.”
Now in its third year, the Decanter World Wine Awards is a global competition whose aim is to provide credible recommendations for today's wine consumer. The Awards reflect regional styles, celebrate diversity, promote value for money, and highlight quality.
