MARC NELSON
Vineyard & Orchard Manager
Marc Nelson grew up in the small town of Ephrata, located in central Washington state. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Technology & Management from Washington State University in 1998. After college, Marc began his career in agriculture with a potato processing facility in Quincy, Washington where he worked for three years in Quality Assurance. He married Katie Gordon in 1999, and they moved on to join the family business in 2002.
Marc’s strong agricultural background and talent has been a great asset in managing Gordon Brothers estate vineyard called Kamiak Vineyards, Inc. In addition to winegrapes, he farms organic cherries and he has expanded the organic farming operation to include potatoes, melons, corn and alfalfa.
Marc believes that the best farming methods preserve the land, and he is constantly working to hone his sustainable management practices. These practices include organic farming and biodynamic methods. Wine quality begins in the vineyard, and Marc is determined to deliver the highest quality fruit to the winery for production. He works closely with the winemaker through every step of the process, and this diligence has made Gordon Brothers wines some of the best wines in Washington State, if not the world.
